During their stay in the Netherlands

We can meet your employee at Schiphol airport and escort them to the location you have arranged for them.

Immigration service (IND) visit

We will go with the new expat to collect their residency card soon as possible. We will check the document immediately, and in case of errors we will ask Immigration (IND) to correct the document at their cost.

If there are other interviews that your employee needs to have at the immigration services, we will schedule those on the same day and assist and translate as necessary.

At the city hall/ council office

Van Lienden Relocation will asssist your employee at City hall and/or the expat centre. The main priority is to acquire the BSN number (Burgerservice nummer.) This  number is necessary to arrange salary payments and health insurance. In most cases, after registration of the relevant documents at the Gemeente ( council office) the  BSN number is issued immediately.

The BSN is also required for application of the 30% ruling. This ruling will reduce the amount of income tax and is a priority for most of our clients. Van Lienden Relocation can apply for the 30% ruling on your behalf.

We can assist with finding a suitable bank and setting up a bank account. We can guide your employee through the Dutch banking system and help with internet banking, payment and bank card options. In many cases it is then possible for them to use internet banking to organise  their financial affairs, via an English language website.

Health insurance

Health insurance in the Netherlands is mandatory, and we can help your employee to find the right health insurance arrangements for him/her and their family.
Some employers run a shared health insurance scheme which they can choose to join, or they may decide to take out their own policy. We are available to advise your employee on a suitable company and a policy that meets their needs.

If you do not have company housing available, Van Lienden can guide and advise your expat regarding suitable housing. If they would prefer to do this themselves, we can help them with the process of defining realistic expectations for housing needs and give advice about finding suitable housing. We can also give them information about living in the Netherlands and advise regarding transport and mobility. We can arrange a ‘learn to cycle’ course. If you wish, we can find and look around selected accommodation with them so that they can quickly find a suitable house or apartment where they will feel at home.

Removal and living in the Netherlands

Van Lienden can organise a total relocation package. We will advise you about relocation options so that you can make an informed choice, and work with you so that you get quality relocation at the right price.

We have extensive experience of relocating pets and the import of vehicles. We can also assist with removal of special valuable objects such as artwork and large musical instruments e.g. pianos.

Education and schooling

If your expats have children who need schooling in the Netherlands, Van Lienden can help them by explaining the Dutch education system and the possibilities it offers for their family. They may consider international schooling or select a Dutch school in the locality they have chosen to live. We can arrange and accompany them and their family on school visits and help them to find education that suits each child.

Water and energy at your new home

We can advise and negotiate with water and energy service providers for your expats new home. We can also set up payment contracts.

Vehicle import

If your employees wish to import their car to the Netherlands we can arrange the necessary import documents and a Dutch license plate as well as the Dutch road tax.

Dutch traffic rules

We can provide a book on ‘Rules of the road’ in the Netherlands. In our experience, particularly at first, expats have a high need for information about speed limits, parking regulations, and help with translation of road signs.
This prevents accidental violation of Dutch traffic laws, and helps the expat driver feel safe and at home on the road in the Netherlands.

Public transport

We can inform your new employee about the extensive public transport network of the Netherlands, also the ov-chipkaart, the ov-fiets and ns-taxi. We also recommend useful websites and apps. This will extend the mobility and flexibility of your employee.

Driving Licence exchange

Your new employee can drive for a limited length of time on a foreign driving licence. This length of time depends on the country in which the licence was obtained. If necessary we can take care of the proceedure for exchange to a Dutch driving licence.
In all cases we can inform you of the legal lifetime of any foreign driving licence in the Netherlands, so that this important exchange process can begin at an appropriate time.

Cycling in the Netherlands

Holland is the country of bicycles. Particularly in urban areas the bicycle is the transport of choice. Moreover, cycling contributes to that ‘at home in the Netherlands’ feeling.

We can help your employee with the purchase of a bicycle and also provide access to cycle courses to suit their needs.

The expat on a bike needs an understanding of traffic regulations in the Netherlands. If required we can provide a textbook detailing the Dutch rules of the road.

Dutch language lessons

Van Lienden can provide Dutch language lessons at all levels. For further information please follow the link to Language Training.
